USPTFL - SUPER BOWL I - (2004)

The Centerville Demons defeated the Philadelphia Phantoms 34-15 to capture the USPTFL Championship. Brett Favre had the one of the all time great championship game performances completing 24 of 26 passes for 269 yards and 3 touchdowns. He was backed by a solid performance from Corey Dillon who rushed 33 times for 115 yards and a score.

The rolling was all one sided in this one as you can all imagine by looking at Favre’s stats. Favre was 11/11 at the half, and was 18/18 before throwing his first incompletion. Examples of my luck – Roger double teamed the correct receiver on a bomb, I roll my card 5 for +29 – the only number I could have completed on either card. Next play, bomb roll my card 9 for a LG TD. Another bomb later, defender X or long gain against a 5, I roll 6. As you know, Roger’s pass rush is awesome. There were at least 10 plays, no sack, dumpoff under GR, all completed. And then to boot, Roger could not roll much guessed wrong on Thomas Jones’ card until late. I’m sure a very frustrating game for him but he was a gentleman to the end – a real class act. Oh yeah, and he got stiffed with 13 penalties too. He coached a great game – the Strat Gods were on my side tonight without a doubt.

Well guys, it was a fun season. I needed to win this year because Favre is going to throw 40 interceptions next year and Dillon will average 3.0 YPC and only play in 8 games. Enjoy the offseason and see you all in the fall.

Aaron Small(4-4) was on top of his game in New York (AL) as he tossed a beauty
of a no-hitter against the New York (AL) Yankees. The Seattle Mariners won
by a score of 6 to 0.

Small was obviously at the top of his game as he set the New York (AL) batters
down like so many dominoes. He walked 3 New York (AL) batters. The Seattle
players and coaches started to leave Small alone with his thoughts after the
game reached the 7th inning. By the time the 9th inning rolled around, you
could hear a pin drop every time he went to his wind-up - and an explosion
after every out. Seattle had a total of 13 hits for the game.

Byung-Hyun Kim(1-6) was tagged with the loss. He was knocked around by
Seattle, allowing 11 hits and 3 walks in 5 innings. After the game, Small
was heard to say, 'This is something I have dreamt about since I was a little
boy - to have it come true is just amazing!'

USFFL - SUPER BOWL IV - (2003)

USFFL Super Bowl IV featured an explosive offense in Green Bay versus a surprising Miami team which returned to the big show for the 2nd consecutive season.

In the end the Green Bay offensive machine was too tough to handle for the Miami defense as the Cheese Heads were victorious 27-16!

Head Coach Jason Goldberg of Miami said after the game, "I thought I was coaching against Lombardi!" The score was not indicative of the play as the Packers were the better team on this day. We are fortunate to appear in one Super Bowl but reaching two is a great accomplishment but, we would have loved to win one! I am still proud of my guys.

Brett Favre threw for 279 yards completing 28 of 42 passes for 2 TDs and 1 Int. The Dolphins were again ugly in the passing attack as Jay Fiedler, 12 of 28, 117 yards, 1 Int; could not hit the side of a barn with 9 men in the box committed to stoping Ricky Williams.

Great job winning the championship ring Arnie!

USFFL - SUPER BOWL YEAR III (2002)

USFFL Super Bowl III was a battle between bitter rivals on and off the field. Long time Stratomatic foes Barry Cohen (TBN) and Jason Goldberg (MIA) met in the big dance.

Tampa Bay won the defensive struggle 19-12. The big difference in the game was turnovers. The Bucs were +3 on the day and held on to the biscuit for nearly 35 minutes mainly dominating through the air. Jay Fiedler struggled finding any open Dolphin receivers when Tampa Bay stacked the box with 9 men. Meanwhile the Tampa Bay passing game threw for a total of 257 yards behind the arms of Brad and Rob Johnson.

Ricky Williams managed to go over 100 yards on the day (22 att for 120 yds) but, one romp was over half of his total (65 yards).

Congratulations to Barry Cohen on a great season!

USFFL - SUPER BOWL YEAR II (2001)

USFFL Super Bowl II was a defensive show case as predicted. Head Coach, John Fries of the Baltimore Ravens used a dominating defense on route to a convincing 24-8 victory over the Washington Redskins. The Redskins managed only 192 yards of total offense.

The Ravens scored once on special teams on the ground and through the air while chewing up almost 35 minutes on the clock.

Congratulations to John Fries on the victory!

USFFL - SUPER BOWL YEAR I (2000) - CLASSIC!

THE GREATEST GAME
If you folks could have watched it, you would have all been shaking your heads saying it was the greatest game you ever watched and most worthy of a Superbowl!! It had missed FGs, turnovers, low penalties, and most importantly, some incredible coaching on both sides of the ball.

THE GAME (Rob, if I mess something up, please correct me)
Game started out with the G-men kicking off. Rob engineered a beautiful drive down the field but was stopped short of a TD…John Hall attempted his first of five FGs on the day and MISSED a chip shot. The Giants could not muster much offense and wound up punting but for the first time this season, Brad Maynards punt was blocked giving the Jets the ball within the Giants 25 yard line which set up their first TD on a Bernie Parmalee 5 yard run (7-0 NYJ). The Jets would make it a 10-0 lead early in the second qtr.

The Giants offense finally came alive late in the second quarter when Ike Hilliard caught a bomb to the Jets 6 yard line and Tiki Barber took it in to make the score 10-7 with 5 minutes remaining in the half. The Blue Wall came up big late in the half stopping the Jets on the 1 yard line where John Hall connected on an 18 yarder to make it 13-7 at the half.

In the second quarter, both kickers missed FGs thus the score remained the same entering the 4th quarter. On the first play of the 4th quarter, Richie Anderson caught a 3 yard TD pass and Wayne Chrebet snagged the two point conversion making it 21-7 just as the 4th quarter began. On the Giants next possession, Ike Hilliard caught another bomb (56 yards) for a TD to make it 21-14.

On the following Giants possession, Collins tossed an INT but Jason Sehorn was kind enough to return the favor soon after. On fourth and one on the Jets 2 yard line, Collins sneaked for a first down. The Giants then scored a TD but it was called back so on 2nd and 8, Collins connected with Daniel Campbell for an 8 yard TD to tie the game with 4 minutes remaining.

On the ensuing kickoff, the Jets kick returner fumbled the ball but was able to fall on it. Both teams could do nothing with the ball on their possessions but with less then 2 minutes remaining, the Jets began to drive. Vinny connected with Laveranues Coles for his third bomb catch of the day and was within the Giants 30 yard line with under a minute left.

On third down, with 8 seconds remaining in the game and the ball on the Giants 22 yard line, Coach Kaplan took a chance figuring John Hall’s range is dramatically affected between the 22 and 23 yard line (From 22, Hall is good 2-8, 12 but from the 23 he is 2-6, 11, 12). The Giants keyed on Curtis Martin and he lost one yard. With one tic remaining, Hall setup and the roll was an EIGHT!!!! NO GOOD!!!!! OVERTIME!!!!!

In OT, the Blue Wall chose an excellent time to pick off their second Testaverde pass of the game and had the ball on the Jets 39 yard line. On first and ten, Collins decided to get this game over with and connected with Ike Hilliard for a 39 yard, Superbowl winning TD. Giants 27, Jets 21.

This honestly had to be one of the most exciting games I have every played…if this was a televised game, the ratings would have gone through the roof.

Rob Dinardo coached an unbelievable game and was gracious to the end. I am fortunate to have been able to pull out this victory against him. The man made some incredible calls and he truly deserved to play in the Superbowl. In fact, both Dinardo’s are terrific coaches!!

Jason, thanks for putting together an incredible SOM football league. The Giants will be looking forward to defending their championship next season…but for now, they are going to enjoy being the 2000 USFFL SUPERBOWL CHAMPIONS!!!!!!!!2000NYA_AT_2000NYN.HTML

USPTBL - 2004 - 1st Perfect Game! - 7th No-Hitter!

SP Jake Peavy of the Los Angeles Dodgers pitches a PERFECT GAME Versus Milwaukee on June 23rd!

Skipper JJ Legree had these comments, "In this game in the 5th inning I noticed it and actually did not even feel nervous, I felt like Jake might do it. Then in the 9th of course I felt a jitter a little bit. But when Damien Miller pinch hit, the 27th batter, I felt quite nervous and he hit a groundball ss (x). It was the first perfect game Ive been involved in, in 25 years of strat. It was an exciting moment for sure!

History was made in Milwaukee as Jake Peavy(8-4) thrilled the crowd by tossing
a perfect game and the very potent Los Angeles Dodgers defeated the Milwaukee
Brewers by the score of 10 to nothing.

Although disappointed to see the hometown team lose, the fans certainly were
appropriately impressed with the dominating, no-hit performance of Peavy.
The tension started to build around the 6th inning. By the 9th inning the
crowd was electrified. Los Angeles managed 12 in their victory.

Roy Halladay(5-2) was given the loss. He was knocked around, surrendering 5
runs in 4 and 1/3 innings. 'You probably have a better chance of winning the
lottery than this happening,' said Peavy, 'I don't expect it to sink in for
awhile,' he said. 'I'm numb right now, I'm overwhelmed.'

West Chester fans certainly got their money's worth at SAFECO Field. Kevin
Brown(7-3) pitched a rare no-hitter as the Misty Mountain Hoppers toppled the
West Chester Romans 9 to 0.

Brown was just too much for West Chester. He walked 2 West Chester batters.
The tension started to build around the 6th inning. By the 9th inning the
crowd was electrified. Misty Mountain had 12 hits for the night.

Reid Cornelius(0-1) absorbed the loss. It took a while to pry Brown way from
his teammates as they all wanted to show their appreciation and joy.
Finally, however, Barry Cohen got to offer his own congratulations with a big
bear hug and the comment, 'That was one of the best pitched games I have seen
in all my years in baseball - Brown was masterful out there tonight!'

Lansing fans certainly got their money's worth at The Skydome. Curt
Schilling(23-6) pitched a rare no-hitter as the impressive Lansing Lugnuts
toppled the Fort Worth Liberators 7 to 0.

Schilling was obviously at the top of his game as he set the Fort Worth
batters down like so many dominoes. He only walked one Fort Worth batter.
The Lansing players and coaches started to leave Schilling alone with his
thoughts after the game reached the 7th inning. By the time the 9th inning
rolled around, you could hear a pin drop every time he went to his wind-up -
and an explosion after every out. Schilling racked up 11 strikeouts.
Lansing rapped out 12 hits for the night.

Andy Pettitte(9-6) was the losing pitcher. He served up 3 gopher balls in 8
innings. 'Schilling was simply incredible' losing pitcher Pettitte said. 'I
hate to admit this but I'd pay to watch a man pitch like that'

Indiana fans certainly got their money's worth at Veterans Stadium. Jae
Seo(6-9) pitched a rare no-hitter as the Gatineau Knicks toppled the Indiana
Insanity 1 to 0.

Seo was spectacular. He allowed Indiana just one walk. The Gatineau players
and coaches started to leave Seo alone with his thoughts after the game
reached the 7th inning. By the time the 9th inning rolled around, you could
hear a pin drop every time he went to his wind-up - and an explosion after
every out. Gatineau had only 6 hits for the game.

Ted Lilly(9-10) took the loss. He pitched 6 and 1/3 innings and surrendered 4
hits and 1 walk. 'Seo pitched one heck of a game!' Luc Savard said. 'He
didn't get away with any bad pitches because he just didn't throw any bad
pitches. What a performance!'
